LB/S Johnson impresses during individual workouts

There were a number of impressive workouts turned in for Nebraska recently, and one of the latest ones was from Kaden Johnson from Papillion (Neb.) Papillion LaVista. The 6-foot-1 and 205-pound recruit was told he could play from safety to linebacker by the Nebraska staff.

“I was measured at 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds,” Johnson said. “I ran a 4.57 forty and my pro agility was 4.09. I believe that my vertical jump was 33.5-inches.”

Johnson worked out mainly with Nebraska’s inside linebackers coach last Friday. The Huskers had some very good comments about Johnson’s athleticism from his workout.

“I mostly worked with coach Ruud. One thing that he said about me was that I moved very fluidly and had good hip rotations. I also had good change of direction and breakout speed.”

Johnson also caught up with the Nebraska head coach before heading inside. The comments from Scott Frost echoed what he was previously told.

“I talked to coach Frost during the workout and after the workout,” Johnson said. “He told me that I had a really good workout and moved very well. He thought that I performed really, really well for him.”

Following the workout, the group moved inside and got a short tour. After the tour, Johnson was invited back into coach Frost’s office for a discussion.

“We took a tour of the facilities after the workout. We went into the weight room and into the locker room. We got into the uniforms and that’s when I spoke to coach Frost.

“He took me and my family into his office, and he told me what he really saw for me and what he really wanted from me going forward.”

One of the things also touched on was the class and the predicament that Nebraska finds itself in by not knowing what their true class size potential could be.

“They said they are trying to figure out how many scholarships they are going to have at the end of the day because of Covid.”

Johnson is hitting the road again and stays busy through the next two weeks to wrap up the month of June.

“I am going to Iowa on the 18th,” Johnson said. “That is their camp. I am going to Kansas State for their camp on the 20th. I am also going to South Dakota State, Wyoming and then Northern Iowa.”

Johnson said that there are four schools recruiting him the hardest right now and that the Huskers are at the head of that list.

“The schools most interested in me right now are Nebraska definitely, probably UNI, South Dakota State and Wyoming. I had a couple of schools talk to me about playing a hybrid safety with outside linebacker. Nebraska actually talked to me about that.”
