Jeff Christy hired as Nebraska Wesleyan baseball coach

Christy

Former Nebraska baseball player and assistant coach Jeff Christy is now the head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan, the school announced Tuesday.

He replaces Eric Ignatowski, who coached the Prairie Wolves for two seasons. Christy was on Will Bolt’s first staff at Nebraska in 2019 and was the team’s pitching coach until 2023.

In each of Christy’s three seasons at Nebraska — 2020 was wiped by COVID — the Huskers finished among the top three in team ERA in the Big Ten. The highlight was 2021 when Christy oversaw Cade Povich and Spencer Schwellenbach, who both made their Major League debuts this summer.

Christy already has a vision for the Prairie Wolves, who have posted a 23-54 record over the past two seasons.

“We will play hard, work to develop a multidimensional team in all facets of the game and be great teammates. Combine these elements with the great education provided at Nebraska Wesleyan, and I believe we can build a successful program,” Christy said in a news release.
