Introducing James Clow – CN’s New Recruiting Writer

Hello my name is James Clow, from sunny Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

I am no stranger to Nebraska as I was on the UNL tennis team from 2004-2008 where I developed my passion for football and the Cornhuskers.

As a tennis player I represented South Africa at junior and senior level as well finishing high school ranked 4th in South Africa. It was a dream to become a professional tennis player but I reached the limits of my abilities unfortunately. I was however lucky enough to practice with Grand Slam winners in doubles as well as the number 1 ranked woman’s tennis player, Liezel Huber.

Coming from South Africa, a nation with a fervent passion for contact sports, my focus has predominantly been on rugby. However, I am now excited to shift my attention to football, a sport I’ve grown to love over the years.

The parallels between South African rugby and Husker football drew me into writing about the Scarlet and Cream. The Springboks (South Africa’s name for the rugby team) battled with their identity, tried a new age, fast tempo style akin to the West Coast offense, and came crashing back to reality. The move back to hard-nosed, uncompromising power play has seen the Springboks rise to back-to-back World Rugby Champions in 2019 and 2023.

Rhule has preached from the same book on physicality as the Springboks, and I truly believe the Huskers are on a path back to national relevance.

I look forward to wading deep into Husker recruiting and giving my input on the next generation of stars who will hopefully become legends of the game like so many in the glory years.

Corn Nation exudes passion for football and the Huskers, and I hopefully will bring that same energy into my writing.

GBR
