Interception in the end zone clarification

Hi all, I had a question about the interesting scenario that we encountered last Friday when the Illinois player grabbed the ball from our receiver in the end zone. First of all, I was in the camp that the interception was clean and a great play. Mostly what I am wanting clarification on is that this is one of the only calls I’ve ever seen where there are three possible outcomes on a review. It could be called a touchdown, an interception, or an incompletion. The call on the field is touchdown but that is clearly not the right call. Where things get interesting is that let’s say there was not indisputable evidence that he intercepted the ball or if the pass was incomplete. Typically the protocol is that without indisputable evidence the play stands, but that would clearly be the wrong call, as there is no question that it is not a touchdown. Had they not been able to ascertain if he intercepted the ball or if it hit the ground first what would the proper call be?
