Nebraska head football coach Mike Riley gave the very latest on the injury status of several players on Monday ahead of Saturday’s game against No. 9 Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium.

Injuries

Senior cornerback Chris Jones has been cleared to practice again, but it’s unclear if he’ll be able to play Saturday. Junior running back Mikale Wilbon injured his ankle against Illinois Friday, will be held out of practice Monday, but is “very hopeful” to return Tuesday.

Elsewhere, senior right tackle David Knevel and junior center Cole Conrad “continue to get better, according to Coach Riley, but there’s no timetable on either one of their return.

Redshirt freshman right tackle Matt Farniok “can play,” but is still limited by a wrist injury he suffered in the Northern Illinois game on Sept. 16.

Senior safety Josh Kalu is returning to practice this week. Senior linebacker Marcus Newby won’t practice Monday due to illness, but will return to the field Tuesday.

Junior safety Aaron Williams is dealing with a soft tissue injury in his neck and will likely be limited in practice this week, but should be able to play against Wisconsin.

Senior running back Tre Bryant will not be able to play against Wisconsin, marking the fourth straight game without him in the starting lineup.

Riley says Bryant’s right knee got aggravated in an “earlier game” this season, and hasn’t been game ready since.

Bryant hasn’t played since the 3rd quarter of the Oregon game on Sept. 9.

Ben Stille

The Big Ten Conference announced Monday morning that redshirt freshman DE/LB Ben Stille was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his effort in Nebraska’s 28-6 win at Illinois on Friday night.

Stille recorded four total tackles Friday, including a team-high three tackles for loss. He also recorded his first-career sack.

Depth Chart

The Huskers released their weekly depth chart on Monday, shortly before Coach Riley took the podium.

Senior cornerback Chris Jones is still on the “injured” list. True freshman Brendan Jaimes is still listed as the starting right tackle, while redshirt freshman Michael Decker remains the starter at center.

Kickoff time

Nebraska’s home game against Ohio State on Oct. 14 will be a 6:30 p.m. kickoff from Memorial Stadium. Pregame coverage on KLIN will begin that day at 1 p.m.
