Indiana blows out Nebraska football, 56-7: How it happened

Anyone else feel like it’s been longer than 14 days since Nebraska’s last football game?

But we’re back with a dandy. The Huskers are in the national spotlight as they warm up in Bloomington, Indiana, for an 11 a.m. showdown with the No. 16 Hoosiers.

You’ve heard it all week, but let’s remind one last time what’s at stake here. With a win, Nebraska snaps its bowl drought, skid vs. Top 25 teams and will likely reenter the rankings.

With a loss, well … By the way, Indiana is the favorite in today’s game — most sportsbooks like the Hoosiers by a touchdown, roughly.

So, let’s watch together. Follow our live updates below, and be sure to refresh for the latest.

1:08 p.m. Impressive catch and run from Thomas Fidone for 23 yards. A sight for sore eyes.

1:07 p.m. Power run from Dante Dowdell converts third-and-2 near midfield.

SECOND QUARTER

Indiana 28, Nebraska 7

12:43 p.m.: Halftime. Thankfully. I think we all need a break.

12:34 p.m. Holy Hoosiers. Another TD puts the home team up 28-7. Perhaps more surprising than the score is the ease in which the Indiana offense is driving down the field.

12:24 p.m.: Nebraska goes three-and-out, and Dylan Raiola is limping off the field, favoring what appears to be his ankle. Tough sledding in Bloomington.

12:18 p.m. Just as NU had something to feel good about, IU immediately strikes back. Another nice-looking drive. Rourke can sling it. Ty Son Lawton barrels in for a 1-yard TD run.

12:17 p.m. Killer roughing the penalty pass by MJ Sherman. Thwacked Kurtis Roarke squarely in the face right after he let go of the ball.

12:15 p.m. Man, IU quarterback Kurtis Rourke has the back-shoulder ball down.

12:14 p.m. Ceyair Wright with a pass breakup that forces third-and-long instead of second-and-short. That’s a winning play.

12:07 p.m. Touchdown, Huskers. Jacory Barney untouched from 7 yards out on the end-around. Very important response for the Huskers there. Game was starting to get off the rails.

12:04 p.m. Huskers on the move. Dylan Raiola has made a couple of really nifty passes of 25 and 19 yards.

11:55 a.m. Touchdown, Indiana. Hoosiers just got down the field in a hurry. A 28-yard pass, followed by a 37-yard strike and then a slick screen for a TD on a 7-yard pass.

Scoring drive: 6 plays, 88 yards, 2:19. (It felt more like 30 seconds).

11:52 a.m. Dante Dowdell getting some love from the Husker sideline after his fumble. Matt Rhule put his arm around the running back and had a word with him. Several players giving him a pat on the back, too.

11:49 a.m. That was a frantic first quarter. Both coaches have had to make key fourth-down decisions.

FIRST QUARTER

Indiana 7, Nebraska 0

11:47 a.m. Oh boy. Dante Dowdell just fumbled on his fourth-down run. Looked like he would have had the first down if he had held on to the ball. NU has lost two fumbles this season, both by Dowdell.

11:45 a.m. Now, it’s decision time for the Huskers. NU facing fourth-and-1 on the Indiana 12. Timeout, NU. Go or kick?

11:44 a.m. Hello, Heinrich Haarberg. He just ran for 8 yards to set up a third-and-1. Nice run by HH.

11:43 a.m. Big first-down pickup for Nebraska. Raiola to Lloyd for 10 yards on third down. Nice connection in traffic. NU on the IU 21.

11:38 a.m. Mikai Gbayor gets home for the fourth-down sack. He was untouched. Huge play for the Huskers, who come up big on their second fourth-down try. NU ball at its 25.

11:34 a.m. Indiana has a fourth-and-2 from the NU 25. Hoosiers call timeout to think about it.

11:29 a.m. Nebraska punts after gaining one first down on a nice connection between Dylan Raiola and Thomas Fidone on third down.

Buschini’s punt is solid, but IU able to return it 20 yards to take over on the NU 45.

11:17 a.m. Touchdown, Indiana. Justice Ellison is in on a 5-yard rush. Couldn’t draw up a much better start for the home team. That’s the first rushing TD allowed by the Huskers this year.

11:16 a.m. First big decision of the game. Facing fourth-and-1, Indiana goes for it, converts on a pass down to the Nebraska 5.

11:14 a.m. Indiana’s Justice Ellison just popped a 43-yard run on third-and-1. Malcolm Hartzog tackles him at the NU 23.
