Idea on making gameday safe

If this gets deleted, fine, but I think the key to Lincoln and UNL making game days safe for the community and the state is to be a partner with the fans in creating a healthy atmosphere.

Idea 1: Create a mask zone, where masks are required indoors and outdoors when you’re in that area. Obviously, you’ll have people who ignore it. But it could go a long ways if you have 80-90 percent of people in masks no matter where they are on gameday.

I also think you could shut off streets and create beer gardens. Imagine if railyard and haymarket were both shut off to traffic to promote more outdoor gatherings than crowded indoor gatherings.

Maybe a portion of 10th street could be shut down too.

Idea 2: Limit capacity. Even without a pandemic, there are too many people inside memorial stadium. I think limiting to 30,000 would be a fair number. 10,000 in North and South Stadium respectively, and 5,000 in West and East. Suites would be very limited and suite holders could have the option to use east balcony, which then the area behind there could be turned in to a club area with limited capacity.

Concessions both roving and also stationed in more open areas. Mobile ordering could also be great. Imagine having a pepsi and a slice of Val’s awaiting you for pickup on your way in and you don’t have to exchange cash with some poor teen.

We need to make this happen five days this fall. We can do it!
