The Nebraska baseball team makes its final trek to the Lone Star State to begin the season, as the Huskers play four games at UT Arlington, including two games each against the Mavericks and Northwestern State on Friday-Saturday, March 4-5 at Clay Gould Ball Park in Arlington, Texas.
 
The Huskers and Northwestern State meet at 11 a.m. on both days before the Big Red end each day against UT Arlington at 3 p.m.
 
This weekend’s games will not have a video stream, but fans can listen to Greg Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin call the action this weekend on the Huskers Radio Network. All four games will be carried on KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln and KXSP (590 AM) in Omaha. Every game this season can be heard for free on Huskers.com and the Official Nebraska Huskers App for both iOS and Android devices. 

Last Time Out

Nebraska went 0-3 in last weekend’s series against No. 17 TCU at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Huskers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth of game one and the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth of game three, but the Horned Frogs held off the late Husker rallies to complete the series sweep.

Next Up

Nebraska plays its first midweek matchup of the season next week, as the Huskers venture to Kansas State for a Tuesday night tilt at 6 p.m. in Manhattan, Kan.

 

Scouting the Northwestern State Demons

• Northwestern State enters the weekend with a 3-5 record after falling twice this week to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

 

• Larson Fontenot leads the Demons at the plate, hitting .324 with 11 hits, a homer, two RBI and seven runs. Daunte Stuart has a team-high four doubles, while Bo Willis is .261 at the plate with three home runs and 11 RBI.

 

• Cal Carver is 0-1 on the season in two starts, allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits in 9.2 innings of work. Johnathan Harmon is 1-0 with a pair of starts. Harmon has a 1.80 ERA and five strikeouts in 10 innings.

 

• As a team, NSU is hitting .227 with 60 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs and 31 runs. The Demon pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.91, while allowing 39 runs, 30 earned, and striking out 70 hitters in 69 innings.

 

• Head coach Bobby Barbier is in his sixth season at the helm of the Northwestern State program and holds a career record of 130-118.

 

The Series

• Nebraska leads the all-time series over Northwestern State, 3-2.

 

• The Huskers and Demons played twice in 2018, splitting the two-game set. The Demons won 6-2 on March 17 before the Big Red bounced back to get a 7-6 victory on March 18.

 

Scouting the UT Arlington Mavericks

• UT Arlington comes into the weekend with a 2-5 start to the season after dropping a midweek game at TCU on Tuesday night.

 

• Zach Henry is hitting .381 with eight hits, a double, a triple, a home run and an RBI. Jaden Brown is hitting .360, followed by Wilson Galvan with a .333 hitting clip, while Oscar Ponce and Steven Saunders have knocked in a team-high six RBI.

 

• Michael Wong is 1-0 in two starts with a 1.80 ERA and eight strikeouts in 10 innings. David Moffat is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in nine innings on the mound this season.

 

• UTA is hitting .304 with 76 hits, 13 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 41 runs this season. The Maverick pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.02, while allowing 41 runs, 34 earned, and compiling 58 strikeouts in 61 innings.

 

• Head coach Darin Thomas is in his 15th season leading the Mavericks, totaling a career record of 391-380 in his time at UT Arlington.
