Huskers Tip Off Big Ten Play at Michigan State Saturday

The Nebraska women’s basketball team is set to open their Big Ten Conference journey this Saturday, facing off against Michigan State in East Lansing. The game, scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) tip-off at the Breslin Center, will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, with Kylen Mills and Christy Winters-Scott providing commentary.

Fans can also tune in across the Huskers Radio Network, with Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch, a duo with 23 years of experience, calling the action. The broadcast begins at 12:30 p.m. (CT) on 107.3 FM in Lincoln, 590 AM in Omaha, the Huskers App, and Huskers.com.

The Huskers (7-2), ranked No. 21 in the NCAA NET, head into the game with strong momentum, coming off a dominant 108-35 victory over UNC Wilmington. This game saw Nebraska tying a school record with 62 first-half points and limiting the Seahawks to just 12, marking the second-fewest points allowed in a first half in Husker history. Over the last three halves, the team has racked up an impressive 166 points.

Key player Jaz Shelley, a two-time Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award candidate, achieved her second career triple-double against UNCW, amassing 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Shelley is also on the verge of reaching 500 career assists and needs only three three-pointers to overtake WNBA player Yvonne Turner for fourth place on Nebraska’s career three-point list.

Another notable Husker, two-time Lisa Leslie Award candidate Alexis Markowski, recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the same game. Leading the Big Ten with an average of 9.6 rebounds and scoring 17.2 points per game, Markowski is a force to be reckoned with.

Adding to the Huskers’ arsenal is Natalie Potts, a two-time Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week, who has made a significant impact early in her career. Darian White, a transfer from Montana State, is also contributing significantly, averaging 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

Michigan State Spartans (7-1), ranking No. 7 in the NCAA NET, pose a formidable challenge. Under first-year head coach Robyn Fralick, the Spartans have showcased a fast-paced offense led by junior guard DeeDee Hagemann and graduate guard Moira Joiner, both averaging 14.9 points per game. Despite losing their top two scorers from last season and facing injuries, the Spartans have adapted well, with returning players significantly increasing their output.

The Spartans lead the Big Ten in scoring, three-point percentage, three-pointers per game, and rank second in field goal percentage. This efficient offense, combined with a solid rebounding and turnover margin, makes Michigan State a tough opponent.

This matchup is crucial as the Huskers aim to build on their early season success and make a statement in the highly competitive Big Ten. Fans and followers can expect a thrilling contest as Nebraska takes on Michigan State this Saturday.
