The Nebraska women’s basketball team had yet another complete team effort on Sunday, going on the road and thrashing No. 25 Iowa 92-74 at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
The Huskers (16-6 overall, 7-2 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to four games while notching their ninth consecutive road victory.
Junior forward Maddie Simon led four Huskers in double figures with 19 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Simon hit a career best 9-of-10 free throws to lead a Nebraska team that hit 25-of-29 free throws in the game.
Sophomore guard Hannah Whitish continued her impressive play with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while adding a game-high six assists along with two steals. Senior guard Janay Morton came off the bench to score a season-high 13 points in just 14 minutes, including a nine-point explosion in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
“It feels great,” Morton said about the win on the Husker Sports Network. “Coach (Amy Williams) has preached all year to be road warriors. I feel like if we can play good on the road, it just makes the season that much easier.”
Senior guard Jasmine Cincore added 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 22 minutes in one of the best games of her career.
“It’s so much fun to play,” Cincore said. “You never know who’s going to be on, who’s going to be off, or if everyone is going to be on, so you just never know. It’s just fun to play on a team like this where everyone can contribute.”
In total, 10 Huskers scored at least three points, while 11 players grabbed at least one rebound.
“I really felt like our team had very good prep practices,” head coach Amy Williams said. “They were very focused, and really came out for pry 32 minutes or so, just top to bottom, our entire team was just completely locked in to what we wanted to try and do to take things away, make things difficult (defensively) and execute on the other end.”
Iowa was just 1-for-12 from three on Sunday. In two games against Iowa this season, Nebraska held the Hawkeyes to just 1-for-19 from downtown.
Nebraska is back in action on Thursday, facing Illinois at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
