Nebraska is set to take on a talented field at the Cambria College Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis this weekend.

 

The Huskers open play with No. 7 Vanderbilt at 11 a.m. on Friday. The Big Red continue play against Hawaii at 3 p.m. on Saturday, before wrapping up the weekend slate with No. 4 Ole Miss at 1:30 on Sunday.

 

All three games this weekend can be seen on B1G+. Fans can listen to Greg Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin call the action this weekend on the Huskers Radio Network. The games on Friday and Saturday can be heard on KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln, while Sunday’s game will be carried on 105.3 The Bone. Every game this season can be heard for free on Huskers.com and the Official Nebraska Huskers App for both iOS and android devices.

 

Nebraska vs. Vanderbilt

• Friday’s game between the Huskers and Commodores marks the first all-time meeting between the two programs.

 

Nebraska vs. Hawaii

• Through 23 games, Hawaii holds a 15-8 advantage over Nebraska in the all-time series, dating back to 1978.

• The Huskers hold a two-game win streak in the series with victories of 4-3 in 2015 and 2-1 in 1998.

• Saturday’s meeting will be the second game between the two teams on the mainland. The Huskers and Rainbow Warriors played the first 22 games in The Aloha State, before meeting at the Houston College Classic in 2015.

 

Nebraska vs. Ole Miss

• Sunday’s game between NU and Ole Miss is the first all-time meeting between the two programs.

 

Big Red in U.S. Bank Stadium

• Nebraska is 2-2 all-time in games played at U.S. Bank Stadium.

• With a conference-only schedule in 2021, the Huskers played non-traditional doubleheaders against Ohio State and Iowa on Friday-Saturday, March 12-13.

• NU swept the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes on day one, before suffering losses to the two teams on the second day.

 

Anderson Swings Hot Bat at the Plate

• Despite an 0-for-7 start to the season at the plate, Max Anderson is hitting a blistering .448 to lead the Husker offense through seven games.

• Overall, the Omaha native has two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and five runs.

• In NU’s last five games, Anderson is hitting a scorching .600 (12-for-20) at the plate, while holding a .680 on-base percentage and .850 slugging percentage.

• Anderson enters the weekend with a six-game hitting streak, including five consecutive multi-hit games.

 

Long Ball & Extra-Base Hits Fuel NU Offense

• Through its first seven games, the NU offense is hitting .299 with 16 doubles, 1 triple, 12 home runs and a .512 slugging percentage.

• It took the Huskers 12 games to reach 16 doubles and five more games to reach 12 home runs as a team in 2022.

• In 53 games last season, the Huskers totaled 79 doubles, 51 homers and a .400 slugging percentage.

 

Big Red Brought the Brooms to Mobile

• With the three-game sweep at South Alabama last weekend, Nebraska picked up its first road non-conference series sweep in a traditional three or four-game format since the Huskers swept Hawaii-Hilo to start the 2005 campaign.

 

Numbers to Know

2- With No. 7 Vanderbilt and No. 4 Ole Miss this weekend, Nebraska is set to face two top-10 foes in the regular-season for the first time since 2019.

29 – The NU offense has 29 extra-base hits through the first seven games in 2023. In comparison, the Huskers didn’t reach 29 extra-base hits until the 13th game last season.

10 – Brice Matthews has reached base safely in 10 consecutive games, dating back to last season.

8 – With four strikeouts last weekend, Shay Schanaman is eight strikeouts away from tying Zach Kroenke for 10th-best in program history with 196 career strikeouts.

2 – Nebraska and Hawaii have played in 23 all-time meetings, but this weekend’s matchup marks the second time the two teams will play on the mainland.
