Huskers Take on BYU in Four-Game Slate this Weekend

Nebraska welcomes BYU to Lincoln for a four-game series on Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16 at Hawks Field.

 

First pitch between the Huskers and Cougars is set for 6:35 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday with a seven-inning game at 2:05 p.m., followed by a nine-inning game. First pitch in Saturday’s series finale is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.

 

This weekend’s series can be seen on B1G+. Fans can also listen to Greg Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin call all the action on the Huskers Radio Network. All four games will be carried on KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln and KXSP (590 AM) in Omaha. Colby Gomes is hitting a team-best .319 at the plate, followed by Griffin Everitt (.292) and Garrett Anglim (.277).

• Everitt leads the Huskers with six home runs and 26 RBI this season, while sitting second on the team with seven doubles and fourth with 20 runs on the year while playing all 30 games this season.

Emmett Olson and Tyler Martin have toed the rubber a team-high 13 times this season for the Husker pitching staff, followed by 11 appearances by CJ Hood and 10 appearances from Mason Ornelas.

• As a team, Nebraska is hitting .243 with 242 hits, 48 doubles, nine triples, 19 homers and 165 runs.

• The Husker pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.27, while allowing 190 runs, 151 earned, and striking out 251 in 258 innings.

 

Scouting the BYU Cougars

• BYU enters this weekend’s series with a 17-12 overall record and 6-6 mark in WCC play after sweep Santa Clara last weekend in Provo, Utah.

• Ozzie Pratt is hitting a team-best .375 at the plate, while Brock Watkins is hitting .324 with seven doubles, three triples, two homers and 17 RBI. Jacolb Wilk has slugged a team-high five home runs, while Ryan Sepede has driven in a team-best 27 RBI.

• Jack Sterner is 3-1 in eight starts this season with a 2.25 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 44 innings. Ryan Brady is an even 2-2 on the year in eight appearances, including five starts for the Cougars while posting a 4.22 ERA. In eight starts this season, Janzen Keisel has a 2-2 record with 38 strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA in 32.1 innings.

• As a team, BYU is hitting .267 with 265 hits, 52 doubles, 12 triples, 27 home runs and 177 runs through 29 games.

• The Cougar pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.38, while allowing 122 runs, 96 earned and striking out 270 in 255.2 innings.

• Interim head coach Trent Pratt is in his first week leading the BYU program.

 

The Series

The Huskers and Cougars have met eight times on the diamond, with Nebraska holding an 5-3 advantage in the all-time series.

• Nebraska and BYU last met in 2015 with a three-game series in Peoria, Ariz. The Huskers had a 6-3 win in game one before falling 8-3 in game two of the series. The Big Red clinched the series win with a 3-1 victory in 11 innings in the rubber match.
