Huskers Sweep Ohio in Ameritas Players Challenge

The Nebraska volleyball team easily dispatched of Ohio in a sweep Friday afternoon in the 2018 Ameritas Players challenge. Close to 5,000 fans packed into the Bob Devaney Sports Center to watch John Cook’s squad outmatch Ohio in speed and physicality, leading to a rout that saw the Bobcats fall to 1-3 on the season.

The Huskers committed four service errors in the first set, leading to a shaky start to the contest. Nebraska was able to settle into the game, thanks largely to the efforts of Mikaela Foecke and Jazz Sweet, who chipped in with five and four kills in the first set, respectively. Nebraska went on to take set one 25-17.

The Huskers cruised in the second, winning it handily, 25-14. After trailing in the third set 7-4, Nebraska went on a seven to nothing run, which all but sealed their victory.

Lauren Stivrins had a career night. Stivrins finished with four service aces in the match. Stivrins has only had two her whole career prior to this game. Foecke finished with an impressive total of 17 kills, giving her a hitting percentage of .593%.

With the victory, Nebraska improves to 2-1 on the season, after splitting last weekend’s games. Nebraska will take on Wake Forest tonight at 7:30 for game two.
