Huskers Sweep Hawaii to Earn Wisconsin Rematch

Both teams were pushed at times Friday. Both came out with victorious sweeps.

Wisconsin(25-6, 13-3 Big Ten) downed Texas A&M(23-8, 13-5 SEC) to begin the day. The Badgers have yet to lose a set in the NCAA Tournament after sweeping the Aggies 25-20, 17, 23.

For Nebraska, it was a first set that saw Hawaii jump out 9-6 and 15-12. Hawaii even had set point at 27-26, but the Huskers were able to take over down the stretch and earn a 29-27 win while hitting .326 in the first.

The second set was close as well, but Hawaii hit just -0.033 as Nebraska took a 2-0 lead on a 25-23 win.

A sweep was in hand as Nebraska left little doubt, winning the third 25-19 on .429 hitting.

“Our team made some great adjustments as the match went on,” said coach John Cook. “I think winning the close game in game 1 gave us a lot of momentum that gave us game 2 then we got game 3.

“We’re really happy to get out of that 3-0.”

This is the eighth straight Regional Final for the Huskers.

Lexi Sun led the Huskers with 14 kills on a .619 hitting percentage.

“We were attacking as a team,” said Sun. “That was our mindset going into it.”

Jazz Sweet added 12 kills. Nicklin Hames passed out 36 assists.

Nebraska and Wisconsin have met twice this season already. The Badgers swept the Huskers October 5 in Lincoln(25-22, ,21, 22) and November 24 in Madison(25-19, 22, 21).

“We’ve grown so much since (those matches),” said Lauren Stivrins. “Our serving’s been causing fits for other teams, so I think if we come with that same aggression from the service line that will give us the confidence to take big rips as a team.”

With Wisconsin as the four seed and Nebraska the five, Saturday’s match is in Madison. The match is set for a 5 pm start.
