Huskers Spielman, Stille Selected to Preseason Watch Lists

Nebraska junior wide receiver JD Spielman and Husker junior defensive lineman Ben Stille were both named to preseason award watch lists on Thursday, the Paul Hornung Award and Wuerfell Trophy watch lists, respectively.

The Hornung Award is presented annually to the most versatile player in college football. Last season, Spielman caught 66 passes for 881 yards and eight touchdowns. No Husker has won the Hornung Award, however former NU running back Ameer Abdullah was a finalist for it back in 2014.

Stille, a 6-foot-5, 295 pounder is one players up for the Wuerffel Trophy, which is awarded to the FBS player that “best combines exemplary community service with academic achievement.”

Stille is an active member of the Huskers’ Life Skills program where he volunteers with the FCA, Husker Heroes, TeamMates, the Nebraska Football Road Race, local hospital visits and also participated in efforts to raise money for flood relief victims following the spring floods across the state.

Stille was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team watch list last week as well. In addition to that, earlier this spring, Stille received the Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award.

The finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced on November 18th and the winner will be announced on December 10th.
