Nebraska heads south for a non-conference doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon in Abilene, Texas.

 

First pitch between the Huskers and Texas A&M-CC is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Nebraska’s second game against Abilene Christian will start approximately 45 minutes after game one.

Nebraska vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

• Nebraska and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have met six times on the baseball diamond, with the Huskers holding a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series.

• The two teams played a three-game series last year in Lincoln, as the Islanders won the series by taking the final two games.

• Nebraska won the series opener with a walk-off 13-12 victory, while the Islanders bounced back with wins of 4-1 (March 19) and 21-4 (March 20).

 

Nebraska vs. Abilene Christian

• The lone all-time meeting between the Huskers and Wildcats was back in 1974.

• Abilene Christian blanked the Big Red with a 3-0 victory over the Huskers in Abilene on March 23, 1974.

• Nebraska has been leaving the yard at an impressive rate this season with 40 long balls through 23 games, which ranks 28th heading into Saturday’s doubleheader in Abilene.

• So far this season, 11 different players have gone deep for the Big Red. All 11 of those players have hit multiple homers, led by Brice Matthews (8), Max Anderson (6) and Gabe Swansen (6).

• Brice Matthews has been a constant on the base path for the Huskers recently, as the junior enters the weekend having reached base safely in 20-plus games.

• Matthews comes into Saturday’s doubleheader on a 26-game reached base streak, dating back to last season.

• Through their first 23 games this season, the Huskers have committed just 15 errors and rank 15th nationally with a .981 fielding percentage.

 

Extra-Base Hits Fuel NU Offense

• Through its first 23 games, the NU offense is hitting .320 with 51 doubles, six triples, 40 home runs and a .550 slugging percentage.

• In 53 games last season, the Huskers totaled 79 doubles, 51 homers and a .400 slugging

Superb Southpaw

• Friday night starter Emmett Olson has led the NU pitching staff through six starts this season.

• Olson is 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work while limiting opponents to a .198 batting average.

• The junior had a career-high 10 strikeouts in a seven-inning outing against Illinois last weekend to pick up his fourth win of the season.

 

Zero Earned Runs in 20.1 Innings

• Junior Jace Kaminska went 20.1 innings without allowing an earned run after surrendering an earned run on a wild pitch in the second inning last weekend against Illinoi.

• In the 20.1-inning stretch, Kaminska had allowed just one run, which was unearned on a passed ball in a 17-1 win against Nicholls.

• Kaminska is 5-0 this season with a 2.06 ERA and is limiting opposing hitters to a .206 batting average in 35.0 innings.

1– Shay Schanaman is one strikeout away from tying Bob Sebra (1981-83) for eighth all-time in program history with 212 strikeouts.
