Huskers Run Over Badgers in Home Win

There are currently just three Power 5 teams with at least 13 wins that are still unranked. All three are in the Big Ten, and Nebraska(13-2, 3-1 Big Ten) is one of them.

“When first got our conference schedule, we looked at these first four conference games,” said coach Amy Williams. “We knew that it was gonna be really important for us to take care of business at home, three of these first four games in the conference schedule. We’re glad to have protected home court.”

The latest victim for the Huskers is Wisconsin(9-6, 1-3 Big Ten). The Badgers needed to force a poor shooting night to overcome the home team at Pinnacle Bank Arena, but Nebraska took control early with four three-pointers in the first quarter. The Huskers shot 50-percent from deep and 44-percent from the field in the first half to lead 30-21. Wisconsin, meanwhile, was shooting just 36-percent from the field and hadn’t made a shot from beyond the arc.

The teams played even throughout the third quarter, but Nebraska used an 18-2 run from the 2:31 mark in the third to the 5:59 mark in the fourth quarter to reach the biggest lead of the game at 25. The Huskers then coasted to a 65-50 victory.

Despite the early dominance from deep, Nebraska only made seven three-pointers on 20 attempts while shooting 48-percent from the floor. Wisconsin made three threes and shot 35-percent form the floor for the game.

Leigha Brown led the Huskers with 15 points while Isabelle Bourne and Sam Haiby each pitched in 11. Haiby also added seven assists.

Nebraska is on the road for the next two games, travelling to Rutgers(13-2, 3-1 Big Ten) January 12 and #17 Maryland(11-4, 2-2 Big Ten) January 16.

“It’s gonna be a tough road trip, no doubt about it,” said Williams. “I think our young ladies are excited to get on the road together and avenge our last tough road loss.”
