Huskers Reportedly Set to Host Transfer from Nevada This Weekend

According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Shamiel Stevenson, a transfer from Nevada, will visit Nebraska this weekend. He only played in four games during his sophomore campaign, but as a freshman, the 6-foot-6 guard played in 32 games for his original school Pitt, averaging 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game during the 2017-18 season.

Stevenson, a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada signed to play for the Wolfpack back in March, before their head coach, Eric Musselman, left to become the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Stevenson would be eligible to play in the spring of 2020.

Since Fred Hoiberg was hired, he and his staff have worked quickly to secure a number of transfers to bolster NU’s depleted roster. Dalano Banton, Haanif Cheatham, Matej Kavas and Cam Mack have all officially signed to play for NU. All of them besides Banton are immediately eligible to play in 2019.

Also, Hoiberg ensured that high profile 2019 commits Akol Arop and Jervay Green wouldn’t be going anywhere, as they re-upped their commitments to Nebraska after Hoiberg met with them last month. The Huskers also secured another commitment from Jace Piatkowski, a walk-on from Elkhorn South High School and the son of former Nebrasketball legend, Eric Piatkowski.

With the most recent wave of attrition last week that saw Brady Heiman and Justin Costello exit the program and with Isaiah Roby’s possible departure from the team looming, Nebraska could return just two players who saw the floor last season; Amir Harris and Thorir Thorbjarnarson. Since Hoiberg and his staff want to hit the ground running, a complete transformation of the roster was necessary in order to salvage something for the program in the near future.
