Huskers Ready for Wooo Pig Classic



The Nebraska softball team is set for the Wooo Pig Classic in Fayetteville, Ark., this Sunday, Feb. 27 through Monday, Feb. 28. The Huskers will play four games starting with a 10 a.m. CT match up against Kansas. This is the first of three meetings that NU will have with KU this season.The Big Red will face Louisville after the completion of game one on Sunday. The game is set to start at 12:15 p.m. CT. On Monday, Nebraska will face the Cardinals for a second time during the weekend at 9:30 a.m. CT. The Huskers will close out the tournament against host school Arkansas at 2 p.m. CT. This game will be streamed live on SECN+.  

Scouting the Opponents

Kansas (6-4) is coming off of a 2-3 showing at the Texas A&M Tournament. The Jayhawks claimed wins against Stephen F. Austin and Missouri State, but fell to Pittsburgh and lost twice to Texas A&M. 

As a team, KU is hitting .300 but has three hitters batting at least .360. Cheyenne Hornbuckle has a team-high .435 average, while Macy Omli and Lyric Moore are hitting .382 and .368 respectively. Kasey Hamilton is expected to be the leader in the circle, who has made six appearances and holds a 2-2 record.

Louisville (7-3) went 3-2 in its second weekend of play at the T-Mobile Tournament. The Cardinals claimed wins over Florida A&M and two games against Villanova. Louisville fell to No. 4 Florida and No. 14 Drake. 

As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .295. Carmyn Greenwood leads with a team-high .444 batting average. She has recorded 16 hits including four home runs through 10 games. Chardonnay Harris has led the Cardinals in the circle, making eight appearances and recording 16 strikeouts. The senior is currently 3-2 and holds a 4.58 ERA. The Huskers could also face Taja Felder, younger sister of current NU player, Mya Felder.

No. 10 Arkansas (7-3) hosted the Razorback Invitational last weekend, finishing 4-1. The Razorbacks added wins against Illinois, Wichita State and Longwood before falling to Illinois on Sunday. Arkansas ended the weekend with a win against Western Illinois. 

As a team, the Razorbacks are hitting .308 with two hitters batting at least .400. Danielle Gibson has a team-high .556 average while Sam Torres holds a .429 average. Mary Haff will lead Arkansas in the circle. She currently holds a 2.86 ERA and 4-2 record.
