Nebraska basketball and the American Red Cross are partnering up for Wednesday’s NIT matchup against Butler to provide relief to victims affected by the floods across Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.

The Red Cross, Nebraska Athletics volunteers, and student-athletes will collect cash donations at all entrances of Pinnacle Bank Arena from 6:30 until tip-off at 8:00.

Fans can also text “red cross” to 90999 to donate $10 per text to help support the Red Cross.

“Our community is experiencing historic flooding and the American Red Cross is on the ground helping those affected,” The Red Cross said in a press release. “The Red Cross is currently focused on shelter operations, providing a safe place to stay, a place to sleep, hot meals and referrals to partner agencies to those who have been displaced from their home due to the flooding.

“The recent unprecedented flooding has impacted thousands of families across Nebraska and in Southwest Iowa. To date, 74 cities and 65 counties have been declared a State of Emergency. Vice President Mike Pence will be touring Red Cross shelters in Elkhorn today to discuss Federal Declaration of Emergency.

Nebraska basketball would like to encourage all Nebraskans to help in the relief efforts. At the Nebraska vs. Butler men’s basketball NIT game on Wednesday, March 20th, the Red Cross and Nebraska Athletics volunteers and student-athletes will collect cash donations inside all entrances of Pinnacle Bank Arena (PBA) when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. until just after tipoff. One hundred percent of the funds collected in PBA at the game will go toward Nebraska / Southwest Iowa flood relief. Fans can also text “red cross” to 90999 to immediately donate $10 (per text) to support disasters such as floods and countless other crises. Fans can also donate at redcross.org (phone service provider will add amount donated to your next bill).

To date, specific to the Nebraska-Southwest Iowa flooding disaster, the Red Cross has provided:

– 27 shelters, to accommodate 2,192 shelter stays across Nebraska and Southwest Iowa

– More than 5,900 meals and 6,200 snacks

– More than 150 comfort and cleanup kits (numbers as of close of business on 3-18-19)

The shelters will remain open as long as necessary. In the coming days and weeks, when conditions stabilize, damage assessments and distribution of supplies will be the priorities as the Red Cross assists clients to move into the recovery stage of this disaster.
