Huskers Open Season at UNI Dome Tournament

The Nebraska softball team is set to start its 2022 season this weekend at the UNI Dome Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Huskers will play five games in three days, facing Omaha and Northern Iowa on Friday, Iowa State and Drake on Saturday and South Dakota State on Sunday. Friday’s game marks the first non-conference opponent for the Huskers since March 8, 2020.

This weekend’s action kicks off a 56-game schedule that has the Big Red facing 26 non-conference opponents and eight Big Ten matchups. The 2022 schedule includes 17 home games, 22 away games and 17 games at a neutral site.

The Huskers return 14 from the 2021 roster including all five pitchers. Senior Courtney Wallace, a NFCA All-Midwest Region selection, will be a leader in the circle and contribute offensively. Billie Andrews, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, looks to build off of her impressive freshman year to help the Huskers on offense as well as defense at shortstop.

The Big Red added three newcomers including Oregon-transfer Mya Felder. Felder was named an NFCA All-Pacific Region selection after hitting .274 on the season. Mckinley Malecha and Ava Bredwell join the Huskers after successful high school careers and add depth at the catcher position.
