Huskers Meet Mississippi State – University of Nebraska

The Nebraska women’s basketball team wraps up its two-game trip to San Juan on Saturday when the Huskers take on Mississippi State in the Puerto Rico Clasico at the Coliseo Roberte Clemente.

The Huskers (4-2) opened the tournament with a 73-44 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday. Annika Stewart erupted for career highs of 23 points and eight rebounds off the bench to lead four Huskers in double figures against the Islanders. Allison Weidner added 13 points and five rebounds, while Jaz Shelley contributed 11 points and five assists. Sophomore center Alexis Markowski also pitched in her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Mississippi State (5-1) rolled to a 67-32 victory over Georgetown. Bulldog center Jessika Carter, who joins Markowski as a Lisa Leslie Award candidate this season, led MSU with 19 points and six rebounds. Like Nebraska, Mississippi trailed at the end of the first quarter yesterday before using a huge second quarter to pull away. The Bulldogs outscored the Hoyas 20-3 in the second period and put the game completely out of reach with a 17-4 edge in the fourth quarter.

A live video stream of NU’s game with the Bulldogs will be available to subscribers of FloSports (FloHoops). Fans can listen to the call of Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch on the Huskers Radio Network (107.3 FM, Lincoln and 590 AM, Omaha), the Huskers App and Huskers.com.
