Huskers Kick Off at Home Against Purdue

The Nebraska women’s soccer team plays its first game at Barbara Hibner Soccer Stadium in 494 days as it kicks off a three-game home slate with Purdue on Thursday, March 4 at 1:04 (CT). The game will televised on BTN with Larry Punteney and Jaylyn Armstrong on the call. 

Last Time Out

The Huskers suffered their first setback of the season, falling 0-2 to Michigan State on Thursday, Feb. 25. Nebraska out shot the Spartans 15-6, but ultimately were unable to complete the comeback. 

Next Up

Nebraska hosts Michigan on Sunday, March 7. The Huskers and Wolverines kick off at 12:05 p.m. and the match will be streamed on BTN+ (additional subscription required). 

Kicking Off

• Nebraska is 6-3-1 in home openers since joining the Big Ten in 2011. In the first conference home game of the season, the Huskers are 4-3-2 against Big Ten opponents.

• Nebraska hosts two three-game home stands this season. The first, beginning this week, closes with Wisconsin on Saturday, March 13. The Huskers close the season with another three games at home against Rutgers, Penn State and Iowa. 

• 21 members of the Nebraska women’s soccer team were recently named to the Fall 2020 Student-Athlete Honor Roll. Of those recognized, Grace Brown, Kenzie Coons, Allison Ulness, Hannah Young and Ashley Zugay all earned 4.0 GPAs for the semester. 

Scouting the Purdue Boilermakers

  • Purdue enters the contest 1-2-0 on the season and is 11th in the Big Ten standings. The Boilermakers earned their lone win on the year in a two overtime thriller against Maryland.
  • Nicole Kevdzija leads the team with three points on the season, including one goal and one assist. She scored Purdue’s gamewinning goal against the Terrapins and assisted the first goal of the match. 
  • Last season, the team finished 8-9-3 overall, including a conference record of 3-6-2. In the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, the Boilermakers won their first match over Wisconsin, 1-0, before falling to Penn State, 0-2. 
  • In the all-time series between Nebraska and Purdue, the Huskers hold a 7-4-0 lead. The teams first met in Lincoln  in 2000, with Nebraska taking the first match of the series, 4-1.
  • Head Coach Drew Roff is 38-43-11 in his sixth season at Purdue. He owns a 162-110-23 in his 16-year career. He is assisted by Jim Schneiderhahn and Kelsey Brouwer.
  • Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch:

    •  #44 Marisa Bova (Junior GK): Bova returns to the starting spot in goal this season for Purdue, earning nine saves so far this season. Currently tied for second in Purdue history with nine shutouts in the 2019 season. 
    •  #35 Sarah Griffith (Junior F): Griffith is one of three Boilermakers with a goal this season, netting the team’s first against Maryland just 30 seconds into the match. Last season, she led the squad with 36 shots and 20 shots on goal. 
    •  #33 Grace Walsh (Junior M): Last season, Walsh scored one goal and helped the defense post nine shutouts. Through three games this season, she has recorded two shots with one landing on target.
