Huskers in the NFL Week 5

Sunday was a quiet day for our former Huskers production wise, as the two candidates for Husker of the Week were largely absent from the stat sheets. But that is why you come here for your Huskers in the NFL because I don’t just list stats for each player. Here is a comprehensive look at how each former Husker did during the Week 5 NFL games.

Husker of the Week

Randy Gregory, Dallas Cowboys

Gregory may not have lit up the stat sheet but his impact was felt throughout the game. Gregory was credited with only two quarterback hurries but he was a handful for Giants tackles Andrew Thomas and Nate Solder all game long. Gregory has strung together a nice start to the season and is a big reason why the Cowboys defense has really improved.

Good Game

Andy Janovich, Cleveland Browns

In a 47-42 shoot out you’re not going to see a lot of fullbacks playing, and that was the case for Jano who only had six offensive snaps for the Browns. But Janovich made the most of his playing time making key blocks on two touchdown runs. One being on a goal line touchdown from Kareem Hunt while the other play was getting in the way of the safety which allowed Nick Chubb to run over 50 yards for the score.

Ndamukong Suh, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

So far in his short career with the Bucs we often see games like this where Suh doesn’t put up big numbers but still has an impact on the game. Suh helped Tampa hold the Dolphins to only 39 rushing yards by plugging up holes. Suh’s highlight of the day was a fumble recovery off of a Shaq Barrett strip sack.

Rough Game

Lavonte David, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When Lavonte David only has two tackles on the game, then you know something went wrong. And that something was Ndamukong Suh rolling into David and causing a high ankle sprain. We don’t know how long David will be out, but the injury could have been much worse.

Maliek Collins, Houston Texans

With the game tied at 22 late in the 4th quarter Maliek Collins was flagged for roughing the passer. The penalty was on third and long as a Texans defender dropped the interception seemingly forcing 4th down. The penalty extended the drive which allowed the Patriots to move down the field and kick a game winning field goal. At this point Collins has 3 roughing the passer penalties and zero sacks. Not the start to the season Collins had hoped.

Ameer Abdullah, Minnesota

This was the busiest day we’ve seen Ameer have all season. Abdullah played a season high twelve snaps on offense and even returned four kickoffs.. The problem was Abdullah struggled while out there. He only had one carry which went for two yards while he failed to get to the 20 yard line on three returns and only averaged 17 yards per return. .

Limited Snaps

Devine Ozigbo, New Orleans Saints

After being signed off the Jaguars practice squad this week,, Ozigbo was active for the Saints in their game against Washington. While he did play seven snaps on offense he didn’t get any touches. It should be interesting to see how much Ozigbo plays over the rest of the season as he is realistically the only backup to Alvin Kamara.

Cethan Carter, Miami Dolphins

While Carter only played on five offensive snaps, Carter did receive one target but the ball was off the mark and Carter was unable to make the catch.

Stanley Morgan, Cincinnati Bengals

In an eventful game, Morgan was regulated to just playing just on special teams where he had a tackle on a punt return.

Jack Stoll, Philadelphia Eagles

Stoll continues to get a handful of snaps on run heavy formations each game and that continued against the Panthers. Otherwise Stoll played mainly on special teams but didn’t register any tackles.

Matt Farniok and Luke Gifford, Dallas Cowboys

Both Nebraska Cowboys once again were regulated to special teams. Gifford played 22 special teams snaps but didn’t register a tackle while Farniok only played on field goal and PAT units.

Inactive or Did Not Play

Carlos Davis, Pittsburgh Steelers

Dicaprio Bootle, Kansas City

Brenden Jaimes, Los Angeles Chargers

While Jaimes was inactive again for the Chargers, that will change next week as the Chargers lost starting right guard Oday Aboushi to a torn ACL. Jaimes could get the start or they could go with veteran Michael Schofield. Either way, Jaimes will be active and likely sees his first action of the season.

Rex Burkhead, Houston Texans

The bad news is Burkhead was inactive in the game against the Patriots. The good news is Burkhead’s hip injury doesn’t seem to be too serious, otherwise he would be on IR and not inactive.
