Week 13 of the NFL season brought another first as we got to see Stanley Morgan make his season debut for the Bengals. This week also saw the Tampa Bay Husker with the week off so that meant the running for Top Husker of the Weekend was up for grabs. How did each former Husker do in their Week 13 games? I have you covered with a summary of each performance.
Top Husker Performer
Gates continues to shine as a run blocker against the Seahawks opening up holes for Wayne Gallam who rushed for 135 yards at 8.4 yards per carry. Whether it was using his athletic ability or his power, Gates is a talented run blocker. Gates did have some struggles in pass protection but he was still able to win a majority of his battle and didn’t give up a single sack or quarterback hit.
Had a Good Day
Stanley Morgan, Cincinnati
Week 13 saw the season debut of Stanley Morgan who was elevated from the Practice Squad this week after a release. Mogan wasn’t used as a receiver but made his mark on special teams with two tackles and got rave reviews for his work as a gunner on the punting unit.
Cethan Carter, Cincinnati
With 14 snaps on offense Carter wasn’t targeted in the passing game and continued his strong blocking. But Carter’s biggest impact was on special teams where he helped keep NFL leader Jakeem Grant in check. Carter has been so good this year on special teams that he is currently 6th in voting for the special teams role in the 2021 Pro Bowl.
Ameer Abdullah, Minnesota
Sunday’s game against the Jaguars was Abdullah’s most active game of the season. Not only did Ameer continue his work on special teams but he also regained his role as the kick returner and also received three touches on offense in his four snaps. Abdullah had two carries at the end of the first half for 11 yards while his 18 yard catch came in the final drive that got the Vikings into field goal range with a chance to win the game in regulation.
Andy Janovich, Cleveland
After missing the last two weeks because of testing positive for Covid, Janovich made his return to the Browns this week in their win over the Titans. With the Browns passing attack firing on all cylinders we didn’t see a ton from Janovich. But when he was in there he continued to dominate blocking, opening a lane for Nick Chubb on a leap into the end zone and provided some help as a pass blocker.
Up and Down Game
Will Compton, Tennessee
As the main backup inside linebacker Compton wasn’t on the field a bunch but had his highs and lows. His highs were practically unnoticeable as he would play well in coverage and cover up his area but the ball wouldn’t go his way. His lows however tended to be in the forefront as he missed a few tackles and was the defender running outside as the extra tackle snuck out for a touchdown. You can’t fault Compton for covering Kareem Hunt, but he’ll get the scorn from social media because he was the closest defender.
Had a Rough Day
Sunday was rough for Jackson as he struggled in coverage against the Raiders. In the first half Jackson got turned around trying to cover tight end Darren Waller in the red zone, giving up a touchdown while also struggling to cover Michael Crabtree underneath. But what everybody will remember is when the Jets were up 4 at the end of the game the Jets called an all out blitz and Jackson had to match up with Henry Ruggs who beat him for the go ahead touchdown.
No Impact
Randy Gregory, Dallas
After a two sack performance on Thanksgiving Day it looked as if Gregory was on his way to a strong end of the season. Instead Gregory was practically nonexistent on Tuesday Night against the Ravens. Gregory logged only 13 snaps and didn’t make a single tackle, pressure or anything. Gregory has been the Cowboys top pass rusher this year but Dorance Armstrong got more snaps than he did. Puzzling.
Sam Koch, Baltimore
With Lamar Jackson dealing the Ravens didn’t need much of Koch other than hold on all their PAT attempts. Koch’s lone punt was a 34 yarder that put the Cowboys at their own 28 yard line.
Chris Jones, Minnesota
With teammates back from injury Chris Jones assumed the fourth cornerback role and played only 20 snaps rotating in at the right cornerback spot. Jones did give up a couple of underneath catches but overall it was otherwise a pretty quiet day.
Joshua Kalu, Tennessee
With the Titans back to full strength in the secondary, Kalu returned to the bench and only contributed on special teams where he didn’t record any tackles.
Devine Ozigbo, Jacksonville
The Jaguars seem pretty focused on giving rookie James Robinson a lion’s share of the carries which leads to games like this where Ozigbo is regulated to working just special teams.
Brent Qvale, Houston
No offensive snaps for Qvale in the Texans loss to the Colts. Qvale’s only five snaps came on special teams PAT and field goal units.
Inactive
Carlos Davis, Pittsburgh
Alex Lewis, New York Jets
Lewis was inactive for this game and is away from the team to take care of some non football related medical issues. Even though Lewis is not participating with the team the Jets are still paying his salary and continuing to support him. Lewis has played well despite the Jets struggles, so we hope to see him back soon.
Suspended
Luke Gifford, Dallas
Luke Gifford missed this second game of his two game suspension for Performance Enhancing Drugs. Based on his suspension it looks as if this was the first time offense for a banned stimulant.

Maliek Collins, Las Vegas – IR
Collins was placed on injured reserve this week with an ankle injury. With four weeks remaining in the season, Collins could be back for the Week 17 game as the Raiders make a push for a wildcard spot.
