Huskers in the NFL Week 10

Heading into the Sunday night game it looked as if it was going to be a rather lackluster day for our former Huskers, but that was until Rex Burkhead turned in a two score outing to earn his second Top Husker Performer of the season. See how Rex and the other former Huskers did in their games this past weekend’s games.

Top Husker Performer

Rex Burkhead, New England

Damien Harris may have been the lead rusher for the Patriots, but when they needed someone to make a play in the red zone the Patriots turned to Rex. With two scores on the night Rex took a catch on a roll out into the end zone while his second came on a double pass that he had to track down the sideline (in heavy rain) to catch between two defenders. With the passing game struggling throughout the season, the Patriots have found a lot of success with Rex as one of their primary pass catchers.

Had a Good Day

Lavonte David, Tampa Bay

It’s crazy that you can lead your team in tackles and still have a quiet afternoon. That’s the case with David as his 6 total tackles were the best for the Bucs but without any splash plays he really didn’t stand out. But that can happen when Tampa has a total team effort in their win over the Panthers on Sunday. David did have one tackle for loss on a play where Bridgewater dumped the ball off to avoid a sack and David was right here to make the tackle.

Andy Janovich, Cleveland

Janovich may have just played 15 total offensive snaps in the Browns 10-7 win over the Texans, but when he was out there he was opening holes for both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Cleveland has been winning games because of their strong running game and Janovich has been a big part of that.

Maliek Collins, Las Vegas

Lacking much of an impact so far in his first season with the Raiders, Maliek Collins has been a big target of frustration from Raiders fans. But against the Broncos, Collins turned in one of his best games of the season. He may have only finished with two tackles but Collins was able to push the pocket and create some penetration with a near sack during the sack half.

Sam Koch, Baltimore

Even in a loss, Sam Koch was only needed for three punts. But Koch did his job pinning the Patriots inside the twenty on all three kicks. Not only did Koch show good touch on his kicks but he was able to flip the field averaging over 50 yards on all three kicks with a nice 58 yarder than pinned the Patriots at the 4.

Up and Down Game

Ndamukong Suh, Tampa Bay

Just like his Tampa teammate it was a pretty quiet day for Suh who didn’t play bad by any stretch of the means, but really didn’t make a huge impact on the game. Suh finished with only three tackles and had a few quarterback pressures but was otherwise just there throughout the game. Heck, he didn’t even get into it with anybody either.

Nick Gates, New York Giants

For a better part of his game against the Eagles, Gates played well. He opened a couple running lanes for Wayne Gallman to run through and kept defenders at bay in pass protection. That being said Gates did give up a sack when he couldn’t stay in front of the defensive tackle and was at fault when four Eagles defenders sacked Jones a few plays later. Gates has been trending in the right direction and while this game was a slight setback, Gates has done enough to warrant the starting job heading into next season.

Chris Jones, Minnesota

In his second game with the Vikings Jones was thrust into the starting lineup with several injuries at cornerback. Overall Jones had a solid game against the Bears only giving up one catch but was bailed out when Anthony Miller got behind him on what could have been the game winning touchdown, but the ball was overthrown.

No Impact

Joshua Kalu, Tennessee

Played only special teams and finished with just one tackle and an offsides penalty in the Titans loss on Thursday night to the Colts.

Cethan Carter, Cincinnati

The week after a bye Carter was barely used playing only 12 total snaps and not being targeted in the passing game. Carter did get one tackle on special teams.

Carlos Davis, Pittsburgh

After an impressive debut the week before, David only had seven total snaps with them coming at the end of a blowout win. Davis did make one tackle but it was a couple yards down the field. The fact that Davis has been active and at least getting on the field is promising.

Brent Qvale, Houston

Qvale saw some actual offensive snaps last week because of one teammate missing the game because of Covid and another leaving the game with an injury. With both players back Qvale was regulated to just special teams.

Ameer Abdullah, Minnesota

After a touchdown catch against the Lions, Abdullah was back to his reserve role playing just a couple of offensive snaps while also playing on special teams.
