Huskers Host Gophers for Three-Game Series



The Nebraska softball team hosts Minnesota in Lincoln, Neb. this weekend, April 15-17. The Huskers will face the Gophers in game one on Friday starting at 5 p.m. This game will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network. Game two is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. while the final game of the series will be Sunday at 12 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s game will be streamed live on BTN+ (subscription required). Nebraska has won its last 15 games with an offense that leads the Big Ten in numerous categories including runs, hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage. Sophomore Billie Andrews has been a force on offense, leading the conference in home runs, runs scored, RBIs and walks. Junior transfer Mya Felder leads the Big Red with a .402 batting average, tallying 40 hits, six doubles, three homers and 26 RBIs. Olivia Ferrell leads in the circle with 15 victories, holding a 2.00 ERA through 115.2 innings. 
 

Minnesota (19-15-1) is 5-4 in conference play. The Gophers are coming off of a 2-1 series win over Iowa. UM opened Big Ten competition at Rutgers, claiming the series 2-1. In week two, the Gophers fell to Illinois, dropping the series, 1-2. Minnesota is coming off of a midweek matchup with South Dakota State where the Gophers picked up the win after a walk-off homer in the eighth inning.

 

Nebraska Quick Hits

  • The Huskers (10-0) are the only undefeated team in conference play in the Big Ten. 
  • Nebraska ranks first in the conference in runs (261), hits (346), home runs (61), RBIs (244), total bases (604), slugging percentage (.561), walks (144) and on-base percentage (.408). 
  • NU also leads the conference in home runs per game with 1.57.
  • Minnesota travels to Nebraska for the first time since 2019. The Gophers lead in Lincoln 12-5. 
  • In the last meeting, the Gophers claimed the series, 3-1, in 2021. 
  • The Big Red is looking for its 11th consecutive conference victory. This would be the longest conference win-streak for the Huskers since joining the Big Ten.

  • Nebraska’s .974 fielding percentage is currently on pace to break the school record of .973 set in 2006. 
  • Mya Felder currently holds a .402 batting average. She looks to be the first Husker to have a batting average above .400 since 2016 and only the fifth NU player in history. 
  • Nebraska is 17-0 when hitting more than one homer in a game. 
  • Cam Ybarra is hitting .500 (17-for-34) with three doubles, one triple and two homers in 10 home games this season. 
  • Billie Andrews has tallied six home runs at Bowlin Stadium in 2022. 
  • Olivia Ferrell is 4-1 in four starts at home with a 1.96 ERA and 31 strikeouts. 
  • Billie Andrews, Sydney Gray and Kaylin Kinney have all slugged two home runs in one game this season. 
  • Billie and Brooke Andrews have recorded homers in the same game three times this season. 
  • Abbie Squier has recorded two homers in a single, twice this season.

  • Mya Felder is 10th in the conference with a .402 batting average.
  • Cam Ybarra is tied for second in triples in the Big Ten with three. 
  • Olivia Ferrell is tied for second in the conference with 15 victories.  
  • Courtney Wallace is second in the Big Ten with five saves.
