Nebraska heads north for a three-game slate this weekend at Minnesota on Friday-Sunday, May 6-8 at Siebert Field in Minneapolis.

 

First pitch for the series opener on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. The Huskers and Golden Gophers continue the series with game two scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Saturday. Nebraska and Minnesota wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

 

All three games this weekend can be seen on B1G+, while fans can also listen to Greg Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin call all the action of this weekend’s games on the Huskers Radio Network. All three games this weekend will be carried on KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln and KXSP (590 AM) in Omaha. Quick Hits

Griffin Everitt is hitting a team-best .289 at the plate, with 11 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 35 RBI on the season.

Garrett Anglim has tallied nine doubles, four triples, three home runs and 25 RBI, while tied with Everitt with a team-high .289 batting average.

Max Anderson has eight doubles, three triples, six homers, 28 RBI and team-high 36 runs, followed by Cam Chick with six doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 21 RBI and 34 runs.

Tyler Martin has made a team-high 19 appearances on the mound this season, followed by 16 appearances from Emmett Olson and 15 appearances by CJ Hood.

Braxton Bragg has five saves on the season with 29 strikeouts and only two walks in 26.2 innings of work.

• As a team, Nebraska is hitting .245 with 341 hits, 63 doubles, 13 triples, 38 homers and 245 runs.

• The Husker pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.77, while allowing 246 runs, 195 earned, and striking out 350 in 368 innings.

 

Anglim’s Career Day Goes Down in Husker History

Garrett Anglim tied a school record with three home runs in Nebraska’s 12-1 run-rule victory in seven innings over Iowa on Sunday.

• Anglim’s three-homer game is the fifth in program history, joining Bob Cerv (1950), Steve Stanicek (1982) and Dan Johnson (2000,2001).

• Anglim had a homer in each of the first three innings to become the first Nebraska hitter to homer in three consecutive innings in a single-game.

• On a national level, Anglim is the 46th player in Division I this season with at least three home runs in a game.

• The La Vista, Neb., native is only freshman with a three-homer game this season and the 16th freshman to accomplish the feat since the 2013 campaign.

• Anglim became the fourth player this season to homer in three consecutive innings, joining Sacramento State’s Cesar Valero Sanchez with home runs in the first three innings.

 

Olson’s Transition into a Starter

Emmett Olson leads the Big Ten with a 2.28 ERA this season in 47.1 innings of work through 16 appearances.

• After posting 10 relief appearances in 2021 and serving as an option out of the bullpen to begin this season, Olson has transitioned into the starting rotation with five starts on the mound this season.

• In his five starts, Olson has a 1-2 record with one complete-game and a 1.95 ERA. The Des Plaines, Ill., native has struck out 26 batters and allowed six earned runs in 27.2 innings as a starter.

• Olson tossed a complete-game win in last weekend’s 12-1 seven-inning win over Iowa, allowing one run on four hits with a career-high seven strikeouts. With an 11-run lead, Olson allowed only two Hawkeyes to reach base in the final four innings, surrendering a two-out single in the fourth and a one-out double in the fifth.

 

Scouting the Minnesota Golden Gophers

• Minnesota enters the weekend with a 12-30 overall record and 2-13 mark in Big Ten play after getting swept on the road at Michigan State last weekend.

• Brett Bateman is hitting a team-best .327 at the plate in 42 starts this season. Jack Kelly leads the Golden Gopher offense with 13 doubles, three triples, six homers and 37 RBI, while Chase Stanke has 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 31 RBI on the year.

• Friday starter Sam Ireland is 4-4 on the season in 11 starts with a 4.50 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 51 innings. J.P. Massey has posted a 2-6 record and 5.29 ERA in 11 appearances this season, including 10 starts. Aidan Maldonado is 1-3 with 67 strikeouts in 55 innings and a 4.42 ERA in 11 appearances this season.

• As a team, Minnesota is hitting .245 with 337 hits, 74 doubles, nine triples, 35 home runs and 204 runs through 42 games.

• The Golden Gopher pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.21, while allowing 280 runs, 250 earned and striking out 377 in 362.1 innings.

• Head coach John Anderson is in his 41st season at Minnesota, boasting a 1,343-958-3 record at the helm of the Golden Gopher program.

 

The Series

• Nebraska and Minnesota have met 64 times on the diamond, with the Huskers holding a 34-29-1 record in the all-time series.

• The Huskers swept a four-game series between the two teams last season in Lincoln, outscoring the Golden Gophers 39-12 in the four games.

• Minnesota took two of three games in Nebraska’s last trip to Minneapolis in 2019. The Huskers fell 5-2 in 10 innings in the series opener and bounced back for a 10-1 win on Saturday, before suffering a 3-2 setback in the series finale.
