HUSKERS FIRST HALF RECAP – Decent Work All Around!: NEBRASKA 14 RUTGERS 0

On a hot and windy afternoon which had loose clothes whipping and goalposts shaking, Rutgers played a first half which absolutely looked contested by two teams in hot windy conditions.

When they headed for the locker room after a weird succession of plays which ended with Dylan Raiola kicking a 4th down pooch punt which rolled until time ran out, the Huskers had taken a 7-0 lead on two 7-play drives of 75 and 72 yards respectively.

The first was highlighted first by a deep completion to Jacory Barney Jr. for 28 yards followed by a screen to Rahmir Johnson which he grabbed then darted, sprinted and finally powered inside the 10 for 36 yards. A fade in the end zone to Jahmal Banks resulted in blatant interfence which was naturally uncalled by the Big 10 Buffoon Squad. (Later they would flag a blatant head-to-head targeting by Rutgers, but pick up the flag because of course they did.)

No matter, two plays later, Dante Dowdell blasted in from the 1 for the lead.

The second quarter drive was again highlighted Banks and Rahmir – first by a 31-yard completion to the former followed by a nifty 18-yard dash by the latter. Two plays later an inside handoff to Bonner got it done as he followed his blocker and cut up then out for an 11-yard score.

Kyle Monangai got off to a furious start with 64 yards rushing in the opening quarter then was thoroughly and inexplicably ignored as Rutgers took to the air with Kalialmanis in the second. The Huskers allowed 145 yards total but no points while their offense gained 206. Raiola had a mixed first half with several long completions but also his first true pick which he drilled into arms of D-back Flip Dixon.

Back to you after the game!
