Huskers Fall to Billikens – University of Nebraska

St. Louis, Mo. – In its first away match of the season, the Nebraska soccer team fell to Saint Louis, 5-1, at Hermann Stadium on a wet and rainy Sunday afternoon.

For the third time this year, the Huskers recorded 10 or more shots, but the Billikens held the advantage while also scoring in both the first and second halves.

Saint Louis scored its first goal of the game in the third minute as Anna Lawler found the back of the net. The Billikens extended its lead as Hannah Larson scored in the sixth minute and Emily Gaebe recorded a goal in the 20th minute. SLU held a 4-0 lead heading into halftime after Abbie Miller tallied a penalty kick goal.

Nebraska trimmed the deficit to 4-1 with a goal in the 54th minute. Florence Belzile dribbled through the Billiken defense and shot a pass in the penalty box to Sarah Weber who gathered and scored into the back left corner of the net. It marks Weber’s team-leading third goal of the season and Belzile’s second career assist.

In the 69th minute, Saint Louis added a goal to put the game out of reach for the Big Red.

Junior goalkeeper Sami Hauk recorded six saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Huskers return home next week to host NC State (Thursday at 7:05 p.m.) and USC (Sunday at 1:05 p.m.) at Hibner Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-800-8 BIG RED or by visiting Huskers.com/tickets.
