Huskers Fall Against No. 17 TCU

The Nebraska baseball team fell 8-3 on Saturday afternoon against No. 17 TCU at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
 
The Huskers scored three runs on five hits, while TCU had eight runs on nine hits.
 
Starter Shay Schanaman allowed two runs on a hit and three walks in 1.1 innings to fall to 0-2 on the season. Schanaman had his second consecutive outing to begin the year with four strikeouts.
 
The Big Red used six arms out of the bullpen on Saturday. Ethan Bradford pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits before Mason Ornelas tossed 2.1 shutout innings in relief. CJ Hood, Jackson Brockett, Tyler Martin and Chandler Benson combined to throw the final 2.2 innings for Nebraska.
 
Five different Huskers posted a hit on Saturday. Cam Chick had a two-run homer and Colby Gomes added a solo home run, while Leighton Banjoff and Core Jackson each hit a double and Max Anderson tallied a single.
 
Banjoff led off the game by lacing a double down the left field line but the Huskers couldn’t bring him home, as two strikeouts and a flyout retired the next three Huskers in the first.
 
Luke Boyers belted a two-run homer to right in the bottom of the first to open the scoring for the Horned Frogs. An RBI double down the right field line by Reed Spenrath and Elijah Nunez’s two-RBI single up the middle stretched the TCU lead to 5-0 after three.
 
Anderson began the fourth a single before Chick ripped at two-run shot over the wall in right center to trim the Horned Frog lead to 5-2.
 
TCU got one of the runs back in the sixth after an infield single and an RBI double to right plated David Bishop.
 
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Gomes drilled a solo home run off the second deck in left to make it a 6-3 ballgame. Jackson followed with a two-out double down the left field line, but the Huskers couldn’t get him home to cut into the deficit.
 
The Horned Frogs responded with a two-RBI single from Nunez after a pair of walks to expand the lead to 8-3 after seven innings.
 
The Huskers and Horned Frogs wrap up the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
