Huskers Face Hawkeyes in Tuesday Doubleheader, Start Time Moved Up

The Nebraska softball team hosts the Iowa Hawkeyes at Bowlin Stadium for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 12. The first game, which was originally set for 4 p.m., will begin at 3 p.m. followed by 5:30 game two start. Fans can listen to the games on the Huskers Radio Network or Huskres.com with the call by Nate Rohr and Mattie Fowler Burkhardt. Both games will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network.
Nebraska has won its last 13 games with an offense that leads the Big Ten in numerous categories including runs, hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage. Sophomore Billie Andrews has been a leading force on the offense, leading the conference in home runs and walks and is among the top three in slugging percentage, runs scored and RBIs.
In the circle, senior Olivia Ferrell has been a leader through 37 games. The senior is ranked fifth in the Big Ten with a 2.00 ERA, third in wins with 15 and seventh in strikeouts with 123.Courtney Wallace (11-4) has added 71 strikeouts through 99.1 innings with a 3.59 ERA, adding depth to the pitching staff.

Iowa (18-18, 1-8 Big Ten) is coming off of a 1-2 series against Minnesota where the Hawkeyes picked up their first conference win in game two of the three-game series. Iowa opened Big Ten Conference play with 0-3 series losses to Wisconsin and Maryland.

Nebraska Quick Hits

    • The Huskers (8-0) are the only undefeated team in conference play in the Big Ten.

 

    • Nebraska ranks first in the conference in runs (239), hits (320), home runs (58), RBIs (221), total bases (563), slugging percentage (.550), walks (139) and on-base percentage (.402).

 

    • NU leads the conference in double plays per game with 0.46.

 

    • Iowa will take on Nebraska in Lincoln for the 11th time in program history.

    • NU is looking for their eighth and ninth consecutive Big Ten win. This would match the longest win-streak in the Big Ten era. The Huskers had a 10-game win streak in 2014.

 

    • Nebraska’s .975 fielding percentage is currently on pace to tie the school record of .973 set in 2006.

 

    • Abbie Squier has recorded a hit in the last 12 games. She looks to extend her hitting streak on Tuesday.

 

    • Billie Andrews leads the Big Ten Conference in home runs (17) and walks (29) while ranking among the top three in slugging percentage (.887), runs scored (42) and RBIs (41).
