The Nebraska women’s basketball team (15-6, 6-2 Big Ten) played its best game of the season on Wednesday night by rolling to a 75-51 win over Purdue at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Huskers got significant contributions from all 12 players on their roster to get their third straight victory and sixth in their last seven games.
Sophomore guard Nicea Eliely led the Huskers with 13 points, along with three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal for one of the best all-around games of her career. Eliely scored eight points in the second quarter alone during a 13-2 scoring run to close the first half and send Nebraska to the locker room with a 29-18 halftime lead.
Junior forward Maddie Simon added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals for the Huskers.
All 12 players scored in the game for Nebraska and 11 Huskers had at least one rebound.
“We’ve had several games this year where I thought, you know, it was a team effort and everybody contributed, but today was kind of the epitome of that,” Nebraska coach Amy Williams said afterward on the Husker Sports Network. “Every single player, every player on our team scored a point or made a basket or contributed in some way.”
Nebraska also finished Wednesday with a season-high free throw percentage, making 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.
“Husker fans were not crazy about watching us miss 18 free throws (last Tuesday) against Iowa,” Williams said. “So, for us to bounce back with a 90 percent effort from the free throw line, we hope that’ll give us some confidence as we head into the second half of Big Ten play.”
The Huskers are back on the road Sunday when they travel to Iowa to complete the two-game season series with the Hawkeyes. Tip-off from Carver-Hawkeye Arena is set for 2 p.m.
