Huskers Begin 10-Game Homestand on Tuesday

Nebraska opens its 10-game homestand with a two-game midweek series against Northern Colorado on Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

The home opener is set for 4:05 p.m. at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.

 

Both games can be seen on B1G+. Fans can listen to Greg Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin call action the action on the Huskers Radio Network. The two games can be heard on KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln and KXSP (590 AM) in Omaha. Nebraska vs. Northern Colorado

• Nebraska holds a dominant 48-7 advantage in the all-time series against Northern Colorado.

• NU swept the Bears in a two-game midweek series in 2020 right before the season was shut down due to COVID-19.

• The Huskers enter Tuesday’s game with a three-game win streak in the series, as Northern Colorado’s last win over the Big Red came on March 13, 2018. 

Huskers in Home Openers

• Nebraska is 47-6 in hits home openers since the 1970 campaign.

• Since the opening of Haymarket Park in 2002, the Huskers are 20-1 in home openers.

• The Big Red have won its last four home openers since falling to Cal Poly in 2018.

• NU is 3-0 in home openers at Haymarket Park against Northern Colorado, recording wins over the Bears in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

 

Burnham Ties School Record

Casey Burnham went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, an RBI and a run in NU’s 5-3 upset win over No. 7 Vanderbilt at the Cambria College Classic on Friday.

• With three doubles, Burnham became the 22nd player in school history to tie the school record.

• The last Husker with three doubles in a game was Joe Acker on April 9, 2021 vs. Maryland.

 

Huskers Ride Rare Nine-Game Home Run Streak

• Nebraska enters this week’s midweek series having homered in nine consecutive games.

• The nine-game streak is the first for the NU offense since homering in nine straight games in May of 2021.

• Since 1999, the longest streak of games with at least one home run is 11, which was set in the 2004 campaign. The Huskers totaled 16 home runs in the 11-game stretch.

 

Extra-Base Hits Fuel NU Offense

• Through its first 10 games, the NU offense is hitting .315 with 29 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and a .537 slugging percentage.

• It took the Huskers 20 games to reach 29 doubles and five more games to reach 16 home runs as a team in 2022.

• In 53 games last season, the Huskers totaled 79 doubles, 51 homers and a .400 slugging percentage.

 

Numbers to Know

27- With Tuesday’s home opener, Nebraska is set to play its first of 27 home games at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park in 2023.

4 – The Huskers open the home slate at Hawks Field against Northern Colorado for the fourth time. NU is 3-0 all-time against the Bears in home openers, recording wins in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

9 – Nebraska is one of nine teams with at least 29 doubles and 16 home runs this season through March 5.

5 – With three strikeouts last weekend, Shay Schanaman is five strikeouts away from tying Zach Kroenke for 10th-best in program history with 196 career strikeouts.

8 – Max Anderson is hitting .488 at the plate in 41 at-bats this season, which ranks eighth nationally among players with at least 40 at-bats.
