Huskers add veteran of 3-3-5 defense to coaching staff

Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported Wednesday morning that Nebraska has added former San Diego State safety Tariq Thompson as a graduate assistant to help with defensive backs

Thompson was a four-year all-conference performer for the Aztecs who made 216 career tackles and earned freshman All-America honors. Thompson started 47 consecutive games and recorded 12 interceptions during his career in San Diego. Thompson overlapped with current Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White for one season with the Aztecs before White moved on to Arizona State.

Thompson is the latest addition to help with Nebraska's large defensive backs room. Butler replaced Evan Cooper, who abruptly resigned in July, and Nebraska has also added former NFL corner Rashaan Melvin as an assistant defensive backs coach. Melvin made 42 career starts in the league, and played for Matt Rhule in Carolina.
