Husker Women Finish Seventh in Strong Field

The Nebraska women recorded a seventh-place finish in the team standings in a strong field that included three nationally-ranked teams at the Weis-Crockett Invite on Saturday morning in Stillwater, Okla.
 
The Huskers totaled 257 points in their seventh-place finish, falling five points shy of sixth-place Southern Utah and seven points short of Washington State in fifth. No. 19 California Baptist captured the women’s title with 50 points, followed by No. 3 Oklahoma State with a runner-up finish of 76 points.
 
Nebraska finished 23rd in the men’s standings with a total of 628 points. Montana State won the men’s title with 62 points, edging runner-up California Baptist’s score of 63 points.
 
Alea Hardie was the top finisher for the Husker women with a 17th-place finish of 21:16.2. The freshman was consistently in the top 10 through the first 5K, before dropping to 17th in the final 1,000 meters. Hannah Godwin was the next Husker to cross the finish line with a run of 21:42.1 to place 41st. Brynna McQuillen pieced together a 46th-place finish with a run of 21:43.0, while Taya Skelton had a run of 22:04.1 to finish 73rd. Deavion DeLeon rounded out the scoring for the Huskers with a 98th-place run of 22:21.6.
 
Bailey Timmons led the Nebraska men with a 74th-place run of 24:49.1. Cal Puskar clocked a 25:31.3 to finish 145th, followed by Adam Christopher in 152nd with a run of 25:36.2. Colby Erdkamp had a run of 25:42 to cross the finish line in 159th, edging out Trevor Acton with a time of 25:44.6 in his 163rd-place finish.
 
The Huskers are off next weekend and return to action at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 28 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
