Husker News: Olympic Photo Finish and Big Red Preview Sells 3500 Tickets

The Olympics have not disappointed! I usually love watching track & field when I realize it is on TV, but especially during the Olympics. I especially love the 800 meters as that was my favorite event in high school and college.

As a kid, I was glued to the equestrian events and my poor horse was expected to up her game for a couple of weeks.

Events that I have especially enjoyed watching are the mixed relay events. I watched swimming and track relays over the weekend. If you haven’t seen them before, mixed relays are made up of both men and women. In track relays, the order of men/women is prescribed so only men or only women are on the track at the same time, but they hand off to a member of the opposite sex. In swimming, each team must have two men and two women but the team chooses which person swims each leg. It makes for some wild lead changes since men and women can be in the pool at the same time.

The U.S. did well; a silver medal in the 4×400 track relay and gold in the 4×100 swimming relay.

An amazing photo finish in the men’s 100 meant Noah Lyles became the first American to win the event in decades. See the breakdown below.
