Husker Football Team in Midst of Big Recruiting Haul

Since Friday, four players have committed to play football for NU in the 2020 class. It’s been a big boon for the Huskers, who had gone since April 13th without a single commitment.

Two of the players are walk-ons; running back/defensive back Ashton Hausmann from Norris and offensive lineman Xavier Trevino from Lincoln Southeast. The other two, offensive lineman Alex Conn and cornerback Tamon Lynum, are scholarship players from Derby, Kansas and Orlando, Florida, respectively and are both rated three stars by 247Sports.

The influx of commitments likely had a lot to do with the fact that the Huskers hosted three camps over the past two weekends; two Friday Night Lights camps and a pipeline camp, which featured offensive and defensive linemen.

Nebraska defensive line coach Tony Tuioti told reporters after the pipeline camp that the events provide great opportunities to close the deal on landing commitments.

“You know for us, it’s trying to be in the recruiting process late in the game,” Tuitoi said. “Everyone can get in it early, but you want to build relationships at the end.”

Nebraska now has five scholarship commits in the 2020 class. Besides Conn and Lynum, the other commits include Logan Smothers (QB from Muscle Shoals, Alabama), Zavier Betts (WR from Bellevue West) and Turner Corcoran (OL from Lawrence, Kansas). Smothers is rated three stars by 247Sports while Betts and Corcoran are rated four stars.
