Husker Football Announces Schedule Additions, Including Home-and-Home with Oklahoma State

Just as everyone has 10 more months to make 2020 vision jokes and not have any idea what their five-year plans are, Nebraska football is busy filling out non-conference schedules for the rest of the decade and making some additions for the the 2030s.

In a Thursday release, the Huskers will take on long-time Big Eight and Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in 2034 and 2035. Nebraska will play host September 16, 2034 then travel to Stillwater on September 15, 2035.

“The first time Scott Frost and I sat down to discuss scheduling philosophy, we both shared a goal of making an effort to play former conference opponents,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said in the announcment. “It is exciting to add Oklahoma State to our football schedule, and we will continue to explore additional opportunities for games in our part of the country.

“The Big Ten schedule gives our fans the opportunity to visit some of the nation’s best college football environments, but the reality is many of those places are a long way from Nebraska. Games against schools like Oklahoma State, Colorado and Oklahoma are driveable and affordable trips for Husker fans.”

This makes eight games on the future schedule against former Big Eight/Big 12 schools. Nebraska plays Oklahoma in 2021 and 2022 then again in 2029 and 2030. The Huskers will take on Colorado in 2023 and 2024 after just finishing a home-and-home with the Buffaloes in 2018 and 2019.

Other non-conference home games added to the future schedule include UTEP on August 31, 2024 and September 2, 2028; Lousiana-Monroe October 18, 2025; and Ohio September 5, 2026. This is the first-ever meeting for each of these schools with Nebraska.

Another change to the schedule is the moving of the second game in a three-game contract with South Dakota State from 2024 to September 7, 2030.

Nebraska is now full for non-conference games in the 2025, 2026, and 2028 seasons. The Huskers have room for one more non-conference game in 2024 and 2027.

The 2020 non-conference schedule begins week 2 against Central Michigan before games with South Dakota State and Cincinnati. The season-opener is a home conference game on September 5 against Purdue.
