No. 49 Koby Bretz
6-2, 215 • Junior • Defensive back
One of several returning options for Nebraska at safety, Bretz is coming off a 2023 season where he appeared in 10 games and recorded three tackles.
Bretz’s biggest role of the year came when he played 37 snaps against Michigan in Week 4, replacing an injured DeShon Singleton.
Phalen Sanford took over the starting role instead with Bretz as a key backup and special teams contributor.
The fourth-year Husker had a strong spring camp and will be looking to earn additional snaps in the fall. Depending on whether NU plays Malcolm Hartzog at cornerback, Bretz’s path to playing time could become clearer — but he’ll also be pushed by the Huskers’ young defensive backs.
