Haiby Named To Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll

Nebraska’s Sam Haiby earned a spot on the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll when the conference announced its awards on Monday, Dec. 14.

Haiby, a 5-9 junior guard from Moorhead, Minn., led the Huskers to victory in their Big Ten opener against Illinois by scoring 33 points and grabbing nine rebounds while adding four assists and two steals. Haiby hit 9-of-17 shots from the field and 14-of-16 free throws, including a perfect 11-for-11 from the stripe in the second half. During Nebraska’s decisive 13-0 run late in the game that turned a four-point deficit into a nine-point Husker lead, Haiby delivered six points for the Huskers. She scored in double figures in each of Nebraska’s final three quarters in the game, putting up 21 points in the second half alone.

Haiby’s weekly award marks her third career appearance on the honor roll, joining a pair of awards last season (Nov. 11 & Dec. 16, 2019).

Through three games this season, Haiby is leading the Huskers in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg) and assists (4.7 apg). She leads Nebraska against Creighton tonight in Omaha. Tip-off time at D.J. Sokol Arena is set for 5 p.m. with live television coverage provided statewide on NET and live radio coverage by the Husker Sports Network.
