Gallery: Dominant Huskies Maul Young Huskers

It’s not very often royalty comes to your town. When does, you want to put on your best show. The Huskers, plagued by transition and youth, couldn’t stand up to the queens of college hoops. The Connecticut and legendary coach Geno Auriemma paid the Huskers palace a visit, pillaged and returned home, the victors for the 85th consecutive time. The winners of the last four Women’s College Basketball National Titles looked every bit the part of the #1 team in the country.

The Huskies scored :18 into the game and never looked back. They were led by Katie Lou Samuelson who scored 23 points, despite sitting much of the 2nd half. Samuelson nearly outscored the Huskers by herself in the first half, scoring 19 points to NU’s 22. UCONN smothered the Huskers in every way conceivable. They forced NU into 24 turnovers, out-rebounded the Huskers by 13 and shackled NU’s best player, Jess Shepard, limiting her to a scant 3 points. The Huskers were led by Hannah Whitish’s nine points.
