America celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a national holiday today. Some of you may have the day off work. Some of you may not (I am one of you). One bit of information about MLK that I did not realize is that his assassination in 1968 was not the first time someone tried to kill him. Ten years earlier, he survived another assassination attempt.

The Husker women’s basketball team is on a hot streak right now after beating three ranked teams in their past five games. The shorthanded Huskers (only seven players dressed on Saturday) are making their mark with some of the best defense I’ve ever seen. I’ll eat crow and say that I wasn’t convinced Bella Cravens was the right person to step into the starting lineup after Trinity Brady was injured. I was dazzled by the hot offensive start to the career of freshman Annika Stewart. Several games later, I can clearly see why Cravens was put into the first five. She is a tremendous rebounder and is rarely in the wrong place on defense. She also possesses enough offensive chops to ensure teams can’t collapse on Cain or Bourne. It helps that junior guard Sam Haiby has proven masterful at dictating the pace of the game. With Nebrasketball shut down for the near future, you may want to join us on some of our women’s basketball game threads!
