Frosted Flakes: A Year That Changed Everything

Greetings from Columbus, Ohio where I will be ringing in the New Year with my brother and parents while watching movies, snacking on sweets and playing board games. Has anyone else played Codenames?

Last week’s trip to Columbus was quite the adventure so I figured I would share it with you here. My parents and I were supposed to leave Canada on a very early Tuesday morning flight to Columbus via Phoenix. However, Monday afternoon it began to snow. We knew a snowstorm was coming so my Mom thought it would be better to drive up to Calgary on Monday evening and spend a night at an airport hotel before the flight. We left the house at 6:00 pm and the snow was continuing to come down more and more as the drive continued and the wind continued to swirl and swirl.

By the time we reached the outskirts of Calgary, we were pretty much driving a blizzard. This was also the time when I checked my phone and saw a text from my brother that our morning flight to Phoenix was canceled. Panic ensued. We had to get to the hotel as soon as we could to call American Airlines and reschedule our flights to Columbus. The car carefully plodded through the snowstorm and got us to the hotel in 3.5 hours (the trip normally takes around two hours). Because it was the holiday period, American was able to get us on another flight out of Canada until Wednesday afternoon. That left with the decision to spend Tuesday night in Calgary, Wednesday night in Dallas and taking a Christmas Eve morning flight to Columbus.

In the end, it didn’t seem so bad. At least now, I have the chance to eat some Texas barbeque after our flight on Wednesday. Everything goes smoothly once we rebook our flight and we arrived in Dallas on Wednesday night and I was ready to order some brisket to be delivered to our hotel room. I gradually realized I made a big mistake. Although the BBQ restaurants were opened until 9:00 pm, most of them stopped taking orders from delivery apps from 8:00 pm. That meant that Hard Eight and Spring Creek (the two bbq joints the hotel manager recommended) were off the table. I scrambled to find another bbq place and managed to order before the supposed 8:30 pm only for the restaurant to cancel the order 40 minutes later. Panic ensued again.

I scrambled to search for other options that weren’t fast food and stumbled upon a sushi grill that was still opened. I quickly made an order and waited…and waited…and waited. After 90 minutes of checking my phone, a driver finally picked up my order and dropped it off at the door of my hotel room just after 11:00 pm. It was decent for 11:00 pm sushi but I realized I probably wouldn’t have ordered that if I knew there was a Whataburger within walking distance of the hotel. Hopefully, I will have a true Texas food experience next time.

That’s a wrap on Frosted Flakes for the year. Thanks to Nate, Jill, Bri, Patrick along with Jon and Kevin for chipping in every once in a while to keep Flakes churning throughout this unprecedented year. We hope to keep doing the same thing for 2021 and hopefully, I will be able to start sharing more interesting travel stories again.

Buckeyes Destroy Huskers 90-54 | Basketball | Corn Nation

t was not a pretty game from the start for Nebraska as they fall to #25 ranked Ohio State in Columbus on Wednesday night. The Huskers kept it close early on but could not break poor shooting, decision making, and defense in the 36 point loss to the Buckeyes. The Huskers were led by one player in double digits and that was Teddy Allen. The former Boys Town start had 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists on the night.

Thursday’s game will be the first of two meetings between Nebraska and Northwestern this season. The Huskers are scheduled to travel to Evanston, Ill., to battle the Cats on Feb. 17. The Huskers headed into the holiday break with a 3-3 record after an 83-72 loss at Purdue on Dec. 23.

The Nebraska volleyball schedule is set! We can look forward to 11 weeks of conference-only matches, with two matches each week against the same opponent. Regular-season competition starts on January 22 and ends on April 3.

On the surface, Nebraska was a really good rushing team this season. This isn’t a “bring your lunch pail to work” kind of offense, but it sure dresses like one. Aside from Ohio State, Nebraska was tops in the conference in both end-of-the-day output and per-hour efficiency. Only Nebraska and Ohio State averaged 200 rushing yards a game in the Big Ten.

A graduate of Southridge High School in Miami, Bootle started every game at cornerback as a senior this season, stretching his streak to 32 consecutive starts. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound speedster finished with 25 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception. He was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the media.
