Frost will always cherish time at UCF, knows tough decision is coming

UCF head coach and former Husker Scott Frost had his weekly appearance on Mike Bianchi’s “Open Mike” radio show on 96.9 The Fan in Orlando Thursday to preview his team’s upcoming AAC conference title game with No. 16 Memphis on Saturday, and to address rumors surrounding him and his alma mater Nebraska.

Frost was very reflective in the interview, saying he’ll always be thankful that he took over the UCF job two years ago.

“People in this community have been so great to me in the birth of my child,” Frost said. “I can’t tell you how many bouquets and gifts and phone calls we got. I’ll always cherish the decision I made to come down here. I’ll be a UCF guy for the rest of my life.”

Frost and his wife Ashley gave birth to a son on Nov. 8.

Frost is the first coach in FBS history to take an 0-12 program to an undefeated regular season in just two years.

He was named AAC Coach of the Year on Wednesday. His quarterback, So. McKenzie Milton, was named the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Frost was also asked on the show if there’s any part of him that wishes the Nebraska job wasn’t currently open.

He knows there’s a tough decision coming, but by the sounds of everything lately, it sounds like the decision has already been made. It’s just a matter of waiting for the official announcement.

“There’s only a couple places in this whole country that I would even think about coaching,” Frost said. “Decisions come up, and we’re going to have to make some hard decisions, and I can tell you that it’s not all about money for me. It never will be. The quality of life (in Orlando) is second-to-none. These players are like family to me, but life always affords you tough decisions, and we’ll see what happens.”

UCF and Memphis kickoff at 11 a.m. central from Spectrum Stadium in Orlando on Saturday. The game can be viewed on ABC, and heard on KLIN’s sister station 1620 The Zone in Omaha.
