Frost focused on AAC title game, would be “hurt” if Nebraska wasn’t interested

Husker Nation has a fever, and the only prescription is more Scott Frost.

Rumors and reports continue to circulate about Frost becoming Nebraska’s next head coach. Frost spoke Monday morning during a teleconference to preview the American Athletic Conference championship game, in which UCF will take on Memphis this Saturday at 11 a.m.

Frost was asked about rumors of him leaving UCF to take Nebraska’s vacant head coaching position.

“I’m just not going to talk about it,” Frost said. “All I want to talk about is this football team.”

However, Frost said later in the conference that’d be hurt if his alma mater wasn’t considering him.

“I’d be hurt if Nebraska wasn’t interested in me,” Frost said. “We’re undefeated. I’m from there. When you win a lot, people are interested in you.”

Ryan Bass, who’s the sports director at CBS Tampa, told KLIN’s sister station 1620 The Zone on Monday that UCF’s coaching staff is already preparing for Frost to leave.

“There’s a lot of truth to these rumors right now,” Bass said on Game Time with Nick Bahe. “Scott Frost and a lot of his staffers closer to him are preparing for a move. That is what I was told as early as (Monday) morning. Some of his staffers have cleaned out their desks at UCF. They’re finalizing some paper work that they had to get done. It seems as if it is imminent that Scott Frost will be leaving UCF.”

Frost also said in an afternoon press conference Monday that while he’s loyal to his alma mater, he’s also loyal to the job he currently has.

“I’m doing my thing here,” Frost said. “I’m a loyal guy. I’m loyal to my family, and I’m loyal to people that care about me. I’m loyal to this coaching staff. I’m loyal to these kids, I’m loyal to my alma mater, but I’m more loyal to the people I’ve been going to battle with everyday. Right now, my loyalties lie with these players.”

Frost reportedly turned down the head coaching job at Florida, which was filled by Dan Mullen on Sunday.

Frost also said Monday that tough decisions like this happen every year in college football.

“And when the time is right, we’ll make them,” Frost said.
