Friday Flakes: Three Things To Watch Against Michigan State Scott Frost Huskers Nebraska News

Kenneth Walker III – Slow Him Down

The transfer from Wake Forest is turning out to be one of the best running backs in the country. After three games, he is averaging 8.6 yards per carry. That isn’t on a limited number of carries either. It’s on 57 carries for 493 yards. If he keeps up this pace then he could hit 2,000 rushing yards this season.

It appears that how Kenneth Walker goes is how this Spartan offense goes.

Can the Nebraska defense slow him down and get off the field on 3rd downs?

Turnover Battle – Win That Thing

Right now Nebraska is sitting at zero in turnover margin on the season. Michigan State is sitting at +3 and ranked 20th in the country. Nebraska is tied and ranked at 69th.

A turnover here and a turnover there and the ranking is different but it’s going to be really difficult for Nebraska to win this game if they lose the turnover battle.

Michigan State’s offensive statistics in the game against Miami were close to equal. However, Michigan State won the turnover battle by four and thus won by 21 over a ranked Hurricanes team.

Special Teams – Just Be Competent

Nebraska’s special teams, particularly the return game and the place kicking game has been a dumpster fire.

So we shouldn’t expect anything great out of them on Saturday. What we should be able to expect, however, is calling a fair catch when you are supposed to and not trying to field a kickoff or a punt behind the 10 yard line. Also, making chip shot field goals would be great as well.

That’s truly all we are asking for at this moment.

Today is my birthday and I have turned 36. I remember when I was 14 I assumed I wouldn’t make it to 18. When I was 18, I assumed I wouldn’t make it to 21. When I was 21, I assumed I wouldn’t…and on and on.

I took my birthday off of facebook several years ago so I wouldn’t get the random messages of happy birthday from people who I barely even know. Some of my closer friends know that so they spoil my plan and throw something up about my birthday.

So let’s see if any of them read my flakes. I know my wife doesn’t! 🙂

Shane Beamer’s viral rant could serve as South Carolina’s new mission statement – The Athletic
“I wasn’t happy with our performance and had been in the locker room talking to the team literally 45 seconds before I sat down,” Beamer told The Athletic on Wednesday. “You’re staring at a computer screen, the loss is still fresh in your mind, and then you start getting asked questions.”

Dear Andy: Is Miami the next Nebraska? Plus, the value of a marquee and a renaissance in Michigan – The Athletic ($)
Is Miami the next Nebraska that can’t figure it out despite their history? Also how good of a job is Miami? It’s probably the second or tied with second-best job in Florida — one of the most talent-rich states — but no on-campus stadium has got to hurt.
