“Booster fatigue.”
This is a term that gets thrown around regarding NIL. It makes a ton of sense to me. We are still in the beginning stages of NIL and like most things at the beginning there is a sense of excitement. It is easy to donate to a cause that gets your heart racing. After a while, that cause better mean a ton to you for you to continue writing those checks.
This has to be same for those boosters who are contributing to the NIL program at Nebraska. It is exciting to be making direct contribution to Nebraska football when you know the money you are donating will be go directly to the players pockets.
After a while, even those with the deepest pockets, have to start asking themselves if it is worth it.
This is why I have said before that it is my view that NIL is unsustainable in its current form. While some donors believe they have no problem sending the checks in perpetuity — at some point the well is going to dry up (relatively).
Especially, as Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen said that Ohio State has a $23 million NIL budget. Comparatively, Nebraska’s NIL budget is less than $10 million.

Not only is donor fatigue going to dramatically limit NIL but a move to revenue sharing will more than likely make NIL less important for a football program.
It is my assumption that the players will still be able to go out and capitalize on their name-image-likeness but it won’t look like the current NIL structure.
Which is a good thing.
