Friday Flakes: Nebraska Gets Final Shot at Five Star Offensive Tackle this Weekend Huskers Matt Rhule Brandon Baker

Brandon Baker is the top offensive tackle in the country for the 2024 recruiting cycle. He just so happens to be showing up in Lincoln this weekend to take in the atmosphere of Memorial Stadium on game day.

This past week Baker tweeted out his Top Five which includes Nebraska. The other four are Texas, Oregon, Ohio State and Florida State.

At this point Nebraska is a long shot. It is still worth getting him on campus, especially for a night game, because you never know how that could impact a kid.

Hopefully Rhule and Raiola have an NIL package that rivals or exceeds those other schools and maybe Nebraska can walk away from this weekend knowing they have a shot. At this point that would be a win.

Behind Enemy Lines: Detailing the Northern Illinois Huskies

Meet Grant Brix, the most unassuming top-100 prospect in the Class of 2024 – The Athletic
Grant Brix didn’t put too much thought into his decision to start playing football as an eighth-grader in small-town Iowa.

He had some new classmates who played, and he wanted to try something new. He had previously only played basketball and had no expectations about where football might take him.

2023 MLB playoffs: Clinching scenarios, bracket, schedule – ESPN
There are still weeks left to go in the 2023 MLB regular season, but a few teams — mainly the red-hot Atlanta Braves — are already looking toward October.

The Braves became the first team to clinch a postseason berth and followed it up by securing the NL East title, and the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers are on track to follow. Meanwhile, clubs such as the Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs, are battling it out for the remaining wild-card spots.

Here’s why we shouldn’t be so quick to assume the Jets are doomed without Aaron Rodgers
A quarterback away.

When the New York Jets began their long offseason odyssey to motor into a Super Bowl window in 2023, that’s what one high-ranking team official described to Yahoo Sports as the last missing spark plug. The defense was young and promising, with uniquely dominant centerpieces in All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and shutdown cornerback Sauce Gardner. The backfield had depth and talent, with Breece Hall striking a perfect balance with budding star wideout Garrett Wilson. Even with an offensive line in a state of flux, the right player lining up behind center could turn the key on everything immediately.

Here’s Something Past Its Expiration Date: the Expiration Date Itself – WSJ
Contrary to a common perception, “those dates are not about safety, that’s not why they’re there, that’s not what they’re doing” says Martin Wiedmann, a professor of food safety and food science at Cornell University. “For many foods, we could completely do away with it.”
