Yesterday Urban Meyer stopped by to talk to Colin Cowherd on “The Herd.” They talked about all things college football and the upcoming season. Toward the end of the segment Cowherd asked Meyer who he thinks could be a surprise team in the new Big Ten and Cowherd mentioned Nebraska before giving Urban Meyer had a chance to answer the question.
Meyer’s response?
“You stole my thunder. I have a lot of respect for…people know this. I am a Nebraska fan. If I was a player I would love to go to Nebraska. The history. The stadium. The fans are incredible. We coached out there and they have been down for several years. I was shocked when we would play them. They didn’t look like a team of the Nebraska of old. I think he (Rhule) has recruited well. They have the transfer quarterback (true freshman Dylan Raiola) is a good player. I like their coach. Their coach knows out to win. He has won at every level.
“There’s a difference between winning and winning at every level and that’s why I have a lot of respect for Matt Rhule. Nebraska would be my team. They aren’t good enough to win it but they are good enough to make some noise.”
Yes. Nebraska always wins the off-season. However, I think we all should be able to agree that there appears to be a little more substance to any of the Nebraska hype this off-season compared to others.
At least for the first time in what feels like decades (hyperbole) Nebraska starts off the season against a non-Power four team at home. That at least should get the ball rolling in the right direction before Colorado comes to town.
Here is the entire segment.
